On Thursday 31st March 2022 the Healthy Ageing Research Group hosted a stakeholder event as part of the Physical Activity and Dementia research project, at The Showroom in Lincoln.
Organised by Dr Jo Blackwell and Prof Mo Ray, the event was attended by local colleagues from across the research, leisure, health, care and voluntary sectors. The event provided an opportunity for the sharing of both research and lived experience alongside networking and talking about actions that could be taken to support dementia friendly physical activity opportunities. Dr Chris Russell from the Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester, Tracey Wilkinson from Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture, and Clare Sobieraj gave wonderful presentations about their research, programme delivery, and personal experience respectively. Jo also shared preliminary findings from the Physical Activity and Dementia scoping review and consultation project.
The event received excellent feedback and paves the way for the development of a network bringing together those interested in improving the lives of people living with dementia and their carers and supporting engagement in meaningful activities.
Thanks must go to the Judith and Barry Jackson Foundation, whose kind donation made the project possible.
