Life of a Research Assistant

Tom has been a Research Assistant and HARG member with the School of Health and Social Care for 2 years now, having formerly been an MSc and BSc (Hons) graduate from the School of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Lincoln.

Tom has worked on several projects with various staff throughout his time here, including an evaluation of an initiative in Halifax tackling loneliness and social isolation in older adults known as ‘Staying Well in Calderdale’. More recently Tom and Team HARG have also recently finished a service evaluation of Lincolnshire’s Integrated Neighbourhood Teams titled ‘Developing a programme theory of integrated care: the effectiveness of Lincolnshire’s multidisciplinary Neighbourhood Teams in supporting older people with multi-morbidity (ProTICare). HARG worked closely with NHS Lincolnshire and various commissioners and stakeholders across the county to produce this evaluation. A further blog on both of these research projects can be seen on the HARG home page.

HARG have recently commissioned by Public Health England to conduct a Health Needs Assessment on Neurological Conditions in Lincolnshire working closely with the Lincolnshire Neurological Alliance and various key stakeholders within the county. A further blog on this topic will follow shortly.

As part of Tom’s commitments as a Research Assistant, he also lecturers on the Human Bioscience module for the First Year Undergraduate Health and Social Care degree. Having recently finished his first year of lecturing, Tom is keen for the new academic year to commence with the addition of becoming a Personal Tutor for the newly enrolled undergraduates starting this September.
